Shipping Cylinders for Work Faq's
How do I ship a cylinder for machining?
Ship the cylinder and extractor to our shop with a note that includes your order number. Many customers simply print their order confirmation email and include it in the package.
Do I need to send the entire revolver for cylinder work?
No. Send the cylinder and extractor only. If the yoke cannot be removed, it may remain attached.
What address should I ship my cylinder or firearm to?
TK Custom
503 N Church St
Thomasboro, IL 61878
Which shipping carrier should I use?
UPS is recommended for both incoming shipments and return shipments.
When will I receive updates on my cylinder or action work?
You will receive an update once the work is completed and your return shipping label has been created. At that time you will receive an email with tracking information. If we need additional information during the process, we will contact you before that point.
Will you confirm when you receive my cylinder or firearm?
We recommend monitoring your shipment using the carrier tracking number. If you would like confirmation after it arrives, feel free to contact us by email.
Cylinder Conversions Faq's
Which Smith & Wesson revolvers can be converted to 9mm?
Most Smith & Wesson revolvers originally chambered in .38 Special or .357 Magnum can be converted to 9mm. If you are unsure whether your revolver qualifies, feel free to contact us.
Are there any cylinders that cannot be converted to 9mm?
Yes. Titanium cylinders and older recessed charge‑hole cylinders cannot be converted.
Do I need moon clips after converting my revolver to 9mm?
Yes. 9mm cartridges require moon clips for proper headspacing and extraction in revolvers.
Can I still shoot .38 Special or .357 Magnum after a 9mm conversion?
Yes. .38 Special and .357 Magnum can still be fired one round at a time without moon clips. They can also be fired with moon clips, although the clips used for 9mm and .38/.357 will be different.
Does a 9mm conversion affect accuracy?
Typical accuracy is around a 3‑inch group at 25 yards. For tighter groups, many reloaders use .357‑diameter projectiles in their handloads.
Is 9mm +P safe to use in a converted revolver?
High‑pressure 9mm ammunition is not recommended because it can cause extraction issues.
Moon Clips Faq's
What moon clips fit my revolver?
Moon clips are specific to both the revolver model and the caliber being used. The correct clip depends on the revolver and the ammunition you plan to use.
Why do some moon clips fit certain brands of ammunition better than others?
Extractor groove dimensions vary between ammunition manufacturers. These variations affect how tightly the moon clip holds the cartridge cases. This variation is most noticeable with .38/.357 ammunition.
What is the difference between Standard, Starline, and Hornady moon clips?
Standard clips are designed around Federal brass and fit the widest range of ammunition. Starline clips are slightly tighter, while Hornady clips are slightly looser.
What are slit moon clips?
Slit moon clips allow cartridges to be loaded by hand without special loading tools. They are convenient for some users but are easier to bend than solid clips. They are only available for certain revolver models.
What is a moonclip used for in guns and revolvers?
A moonclip holds multiple cartridges together for faster reloading in revolvers.
Are TK Custom moonclips compatible with all types of revolvers?
They are model-specific — check your revolver brand and caliber before ordering.
Do you ship Moonclips Internationally?
We ship moonclips across the United States with fast and reliable delivery only. Currently we do not ship international orders.
Are moon clips universal?
No. Moon clips are manufactured to fit specific revolver models and calibers. Always choose a clip designed for your firearm for the best performance.
Do moon clips improve reload speed?
Yes. Moon clips keep cartridges together, allowing for rapid cylinder loading and simultaneous extraction, which significantly speeds up reloads—especially in competitive shooting.
Can I reuse moon clips?
Yes. Quality moon clips, especially those made from durable steel, can be reused multiple times. Proper care and storage help extend their lifespan.
Are moon clips legal for competition shooting?
Yes. Moon clips are widely used in competitive shooting sports such as USPSA, IDPA, and ICORE for their speed and efficiency.
Compatibility & Product Fitment Faq's
Will your extended cylinder release fit my Smith & Wesson revolver?
Our extended cylinder releases are designed to fit most modern Smith & Wesson revolvers, although compatibility may vary depending on the specific model and production variation.
Will your parts work with my holster?
Holster compatibility depends on the holster design. Some holsters may require modification when using extended controls or accessories.
Do you make parts for Colt revolvers?
No. We do not offer Colt revolver parts or perform cylinder work on Colt revolvers.
Springs & Trigger Setup Faq's
How do I install the adjustable strain screw?
Remove the factory strain screw from the front of the grip frame and install the adjustable strain screw in its place. Once installed, adjust tension using the internal set screw to control the pressure applied to the mainspring.
What should I do if I get light primer strikes?
Increase mainspring tension by tightening the set screw slightly. Make small adjustments and test fire until ignition becomes consistent.
Purchasing Labor Faq's
How do I pay for labor?
Navigate to the Services tab on our website, find the service you want to purchase, add it to your cart, and complete the checkout process.
If I purchase other items with labor, do those items ship separately?
No. Any additional items purchased with labor will ship back with your cylinder or firearm once the work is completed.
Does the cost of labor apply toward free shipping for orders over $250?
No. The cost of labor does not count toward the free shipping threshold.
