Pinned Front Sight Pin & Drill — S&W Revolver
Pinned Front Sight Pin & Drill — S&W Revolver
A front sight installation kit for S&W revolvers from TK Custom, with the roll pin and the correctly sized drill bit you need to install a pinned front sight. A pinned front sight is held in place by a small cross pin, and putting one on means drilling the sight and pinning it to the barrel. This kit gives you the right pin and the matching drill bit so the job is done to the correct dimensions.
Why the right drill bit matters: a pinned front sight has to sit at the correct height and line up square with the bore, and the pin hole has to be the right diameter so the pin holds without play. Using the matching drill bit keeps the hole sized correctly, so the sight pins in solid and stays put under recoil. A hole that is off can leave the sight loose or sitting crooked, which shows up downrange as a point of impact that wanders.
Who it is for: gunsmiths and experienced builders installing or replacing a pinned front sight on an S&W revolver.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Federal or Remington & others makes works the best with the .025 thick Full Moonclips, which fit all the .38/357 standard moonclip. They allow the cartridges to have some movement or wiggle so that they will fall right into the chambers once properly aligned. Winchester brass does not work at all as the groove width is too tight/small.

There is no SAAMI specifications for the extractor groove and each manufacturer makes them as they want. The following list gives you a great example. This is why the diameter size of the brass is critical to proper loading, unloading and fitment. Cartridge diameter too big and moonclip too small causes the moonclip to bend. The cartridge should rotate within their respective place and wobble slightly when all cartridges are loaded.
