I am not gunsmith, but I thought how hard could it be to change acoupla springs in my wife's itty bitty model 36 Smith. Hah. After committing every reassembly sin possible and reviewing every internet adviso available, today, I got it to work notwithstanding the knowledge that the hammer rod yoke firs a little pin in the hammer, or that the hairpin reset spring can come astray or that the little dick shaped rod that connects trigger to trigger slide among other things. Not only does it work, but I stoned a couple easy spots too and found out the top pin on the side cover will allow a little wiggle thus easily installing it after 11 hundred attempts. All in all...the gun is smooth easy and goes bang every time.
QUITE a lesson but the results are so good I'd do it again. Great product!
I've installed the S&W J frame reduced spring kits and firing pins in a couple of S&W 642's. The trigger pull has been lessened and no problems with primer ignition. The kits did everything that was hoped for.
I had a professional install the Reduced Spring Kit in my S&W Model 640 Centennial (which I purchased new in 1990). He installed the spring kit but the extended firing pin did not fit my gun. He reinstalled the original firing pin. I was told that the firing pin that came with the Kit was too large to fit older model pistols, like mine. That was unfortunate as I had selected the Kit over others (Wilson, Brownell’s) because it had an extended firing pin as part of the system. Customer service was great. They offered to refund the price of the Kit. I declined the offer, since I was using all the springs in the Kit, just not the firing pin. My gunsmith test fired the gun. I am hoping that the extended firing pin is not necessary for the proper operation of the pistol. I would certainly purchase from SK Custom again. I just wanted others to know that there could be an issue with installing the firing pin in their J Frame.
